North Idaho observations.....

This has been an unusual year, for sure.

Bears (the Black variety) have been seen all over the place. I saw the same one on Schweitzer road at least three times. Cinnemon color and playful....playful means a bullet.

Saw my first Grizzly...silver & gold shoulders, black rear end, small...probably 300 pounds or so....weird..

Coyotes are getting bold and ballsy. Have heard the pack on numerous occasions. SAW the pack of 40 ( or so) on Wednesday. Saw a pup on Thursday just standing in the driveway...got the daewoo model K1... it left. Very sneaky animals...

While standing at the back of my truck last week, I Heard a cough\exhale which sounded close. Heavily wooded area. Walked to my drivers door. 10 seconds later, a Black bear crossed the road at the back of my van. The bear was walking normally....he stood 6 feet off the ground as he gaited....not a thang to mess with. He turned left and I quickly re-entered my vehicle

I've seen moose with appolusa rears...very odd coloring

Moose are all over the place.... and mostly jet black! Why arent they dark brown as always?

Rabbits... thousands of them. With all the coyotes...sup wit dat?

Just a few things that I've been seeing this year as opposed to my previous 10 years up here.

Edited to correct typo's (which I dictated...not typed!)

I was under the impression griz and blacks didn't inhabit the same territory. Sounds weird.

Species Explosion

Quote:

Invasive plants and animals can destroy an entire ecosystem, however, and many of the most adaptable animalsrats, cockroaches, jellyfish, mosquitoesare not necessarily the most desirable neighbors. Weedy field mustard will outlast maple trees. Canadian squirrels, breeding sooner because of early springs, will outlast New Hampshire loons that neglected winter migration this year when lakes didn't freeze as normal.
